Alwington Dance Club

Alwington Dance Club was formed in 1974, two local farmers, Charlie Pickard of Ford Farm and Edwin Poole of Moore Park Farm wanted themselves, and their families, to learn to dance in order to make family gatherings more enjoyable. They approached Pat and Cyril Blight and asked if they could teach them.
Pat had just undergone major surgery for breast cancer and was under remission and needed to overcome the lack of muscle movement in her arm. Eventually she agreed to form the club providing everyone was careful with her and those attending paid an entrance fee to raise funds for urgent cancer equipment in Bideford Hospital. Numbers soon grew and thus Alwington Dance Club was formed.
Over the years the club has raised thousands of pounds towards the purchasing and provision of cancer equipment in the local area.
Sadly, Pat passed away in 2015, aged 81, but her legacy of Alwington Dance Club is still going strong, now run by her son Adrian and his wife Denise. The main aim is to provide the fun of social and sequence dancing which can be enjoyed by all ages and for the needed funds to be raised for the cause.
In December 2016 the group presented the Village Hall with a defibrillator.
We are always looking for new members so if you would like to try sequence ballroom come along on our dance night, any Thursday evening from:-
