Welcome To Alwington Parish

Occupying a stunning part of the beautiful North Devon Heritage coast, the Parish of Alwington covers an area stretching from Peppercombe to Babbacombe and Cockington, towards Greencliffe on the Abbotsham Parish border, then moving inland from Bideford Bay, it includes such quaintly named spots as Knotty Corner as well as the villages or hamlets of Fairy Cross, Ford, Alwington and Woodtown, before moving on down to the boundary at Yeo Vale. which means "the town within or below the wood".

Sadly today there are no shops, post offices or pubs within the Parish boundaries, but there are such facilities within a mile or two  -  Horns Cross has two pubs, the Coach & Horses and Hoops Inn, both with B&B accommodation, and there are a number of self catering holiday cottages -  there is no Post Office within the Parish, the nearest being at Bucks Cross, on the A39 heading towards Bude, which also offers grocery items and newspapers.

Alwington Village Hall was constructed in 1933, it is ideal for various events, including skittles, dancing classes, concerts, quiz evenings, horticultural shows and the like.

Superfast Broadband is coming...

Airband is at the planning stage to provide a cost effective Superfast Broadband service to our parish using fibre (optic cable) to the premise (FTTP) using funding from DCMS via Connecting Devon and Somerset.

The rollout will utilise existing infrastructure (BT/Openreach/Western Power) and we can expect fibre being added to these poles this Autumn, Connections will be available from mid January 2022.

Please click here for futher information about the packages and how to register interest.

The connection fee includes a survey to establish how best to connect each property. Airband will also will help subscribers mid contract to change from their existing provider if required.

Devon and Cornwall alert

The Devon and Cornwall alert system helps the police obtain information on happenings in the local area whilst also keeping people informed and aware. The system is designed so that people can recieve the infromation they would like, and subscribers do not recieve alerts on every incident. The main goal is to help reduce crime and also help to give the police more information regarding crime.
